Workshop on ‘Understanding Myanmar’s International Boundary’ held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (27-8-2025, Nay Pyi Taw)

A workshop titled ‘Understanding Myanmar’s International Boundary’ was held at the Lawkanat Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw on 27-28 August 2025. During the Opening Ceremony, U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs delivered opening remarks. In his address, he emphasized the significance of boundary matters, noting that they constitute a crucial representation of state sovereignty. He also stressed the importance of efficient and effective boundary management to safeguard sovereignty, national integrity, security and stability, as well as to promote peaceful coexistence with neighbouring countries.
Also present on the occasion were U Naing Min Kyaw, Deputy Foreign Minister, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and senior officials from relevant Ministries. The workshop was attended by around 100 representatives from the various Ministries and Departments, including Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Communication, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives from Myanmar Embassies and Consulates Generals located in neighbouring countries.
The first day of the workshop focused on the discussion regarding Myanmar’s Land Boundary. Experts and representatives from Department of Water Resources and River Development of Ministry of Transport and Communication, Myanmar Naval Hydrographic Centre of Myanmar Navy, General Administration Department of Ministry of Home Affairs, Boundary Division of Consular and Legal Affairs Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Survey Department of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservations participated in the panel sessions. In addition, Myanmar Ambassador to Kuwait, Minister Counsellor at Myanmar Embassy in Kuwait and Chargé d’ Affaires a.i/ Minister at Myanmar Embassy in Pretoria joined the discussions via online as panelists.
The second day of the workshop will be dedicated to discussions on Myanmar’s Maritime Boundary. Experts from Department of Marine Administration of Ministry of Transport and Communication, Myanmar Naval Hydrographic Centre, International Law and Treaties Division of the Consular and Legal Affairs Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Legal Affairs, and Ministry of Education will share their insights and expertise on the matters relating to the maritime boundary. Chargé d’ Affaires a.i/ Minister at Myanmar Embassy in Singapore will also contribute to the discussions via online as a panelist.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs receives Ambassador of Nepal Mr. Harishchandra Ghimire (27-8-2025, Nay Pyi Taw)

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. U Ko Ko Kyaw received Ambassador of Nepal to Myanmar Mr. Harishchandra Ghimire at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 27 August 2025 at 1100 hrs.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral matters including consular affairs.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs receives UNFPA Representative to Myanmar (27-8-2025, Nay Pyi Taw)

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Hau Khan Sum, received Mr. Jaime Nadal Roig, Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to Myanmar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw at 14:00 hrs on 27 August 2025.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters pertaining to the UNFPA’s work plans and its activities in Myanmar.
Also present at the meeting were the senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Holding the Signing Ceremony of the Agreement for Authorizing the Dependents of Members of a Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post to Engage in Gainful Employment between Myanmar and India

The Signing ceremony of the Agreement for Authorizing the Dependents of Members of a Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post to Engage in Gainful Employment between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Republic of India was held at the Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the ceremony in the presence of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs H.E. U Naing Min Kyaw, the Agreement was signed by H.E. U Hau Khan Sum, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar and H.E. Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to Myanmar on behalf of the respective governments.
The ceremony was also attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and officials from the Embassy of the Republic of India.
The Agreement reflects the shared commitment of Myanmar and India to consolidate their strong relations and longstanding partnership.

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe received Ambassador of India to Myanmar Mr. Abhay Thakur at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 26 August 2025 at 1000 hrs.
During the meeting, they cordially discussed matters related to mutually beneficial cooperation, border trade, border security and boundary as well as India’s continued support for post-earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs receives Ambassador of China to Myanmar (25-8-2025, Naypyitaw)

U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received Ms. Ma Jia, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, on 25 August 2025 at 1300 hrs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, they cordially discussed the matters pertaining to the further consolidation of the existing Pauk Phaw relations and expansion of cooperation between Myanmar and China, continued implementation of Myanmar-China bilateral projects, as well as China’s continued support for Myanmar’s development and post-earthquake rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs meets with Foreign Ministers of Cambodia and Laos (16-8-2025, Anning)

During the visit to Anning, China to attend 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related meeting, U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar held meetings with Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia in the evening on 14 August 2025 and Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR in the afternoon on 15 August 2025, separately.
During respective meetings, both sides discussed matters relating to further consolidation of existing friendship and promotion of bilateral cooperation.
The Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe arrived back from Anning, China in the afternoon of 16 August 2025 after attending the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Hau Khan Sum received H.E. Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, at 11:30 am, today, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on further advancement of the existing friendly relations and bilateral cooperation, and discussed matters pertaining to the expansion of multi-faceted cooperation including tourism, trade, investment, people-to-people ties as well as closer collaboration at both regional and multilateral arenas.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Naing Min Kyaw received H.E. Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, today at 11:30 am at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on further strengthening the existing bilateral ties and collaboration across various sectors in areas of mutual interest, cooperation along the border. They also discussed ways and means to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade sector.
