Myanmar Delegation participates in ASEAN Summits with Dialogue Partners (27-10-2025, Kuala Lumpur)

On 27 October 2025, the Myanmar delegation took part in a series of Summits with ASEAN’s dialogue partners. These included the 26th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit, the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit, the 20th East Asia Summit, the 15th ASEAN-United Nations Summit and the Gala Dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and Spouse.
The Summits provided a platform for reviewing the ongoing cooperation between ASEAN and its partners, exchanging views on future collaboration, and discussing key regional and global developments.
At the Summits, the Head of the Myanmar delegation emphasized the importance of enhancing ASEAN’s engagement with each dialogue partner within existing cooperation frameworks. He also called for practical, inclusive, and mutually beneficial approaches to shape future collaboration.
The Head of Myanmar delegation shared the developments in Myanmar, including Myanmar’s continued cooperation with ASEAN in implementing the Five-Point Consensus in line with its National Five-Point Roadmap, preparation for the free, fair, inclusive and credible General Elections, Government’s efforts to achieving long-lasting peace across the country and necessary counter measures to maintain peace, security and safety of the people.
Myanmar Delegation Attends the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits (26-10-2025, Kuala Lumpur)

The Myanmar Delegation currently in Malaysia to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits participated in a series of meeting and events on 26 October 2025. These included the Opening Ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, the ASEAN Prize Award Ceremony, the Signing Ceremony for the Declaration on Timor-Leste’s Accession to ASEAN, the Plenary Session of the 47th ASEAN Summit, the 13th ASEAN-US Summit, the 28th ASEAN-Japan Summit, the 22nd ASEAN-India Summit and the Retreat Session of the 47th ASEAN Summit.
Throughout these meetings, leaders engaged in discussions on strengthening the ASEAN Community, reviewing ASEAN’s External Relations, charting future cooperation, the situation in Myanmar, and regional and international developments.
At the meetings, the Head of the Myanmar Delegation emphasized the importance of balanced progress across ASEAN’s three pillars, as fundamental to building a resilient, innovative, dynamic, and people-centred ASEAN Community. The Head of the Myanmar Delegation stressed that ASEAN must continue to serve as a neutral and constructive platform in fostering cooperation with its external partners.
Regarding the situation in Myanmar, Head of the Myanmar Delegation stated that the Myanmar Government is making efforts to ensure peace and stability, end violence, and promote inclusive development across the country. It was also highlighted that the upcoming elections would serve as an important step toward building a genuine multi-party democratic system. He then reiterated that the Government remains committed to protecting and safeguarding the interests of the people.
Furthermore, the Myanmar Delegation underscored that any discriminatory treatment against Myanmar, which runs counter to ASEAN’s core principles, could potentially undermine the unity and cohesion of ASEAN.
Malaysia, as the ASEAN Chair, Hosts the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits with Participation from Myanmar Delegation (25-10-2025, Kuala Lumpur)

Malaysia, as the Chair of ASEAN, is hosting the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 25 to 29 October 2025.
At the invitation of the Malaysian Government, Myanmar delegation led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the meetings.
On 25 October 2025, ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting and Joint ASEAN Foreign Ministers and ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting were held.
These meetings discussed and exchanged views on ASEAN Community-building efforts, Implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus, Review on the ASEAN’s external relations and Future Direction, the accession of Timor-Leste as a member of ASEAN and Coordination between the Political-Security and Economic communities of ASEAN.
During the meetings, the head of the Myanmar Delegation stated that Myanmar had fully cooperated in the process of ASEAN Community Building. He also affirmed Myanmar’s commitment to continue contributing to the realization of ASEAN Vision 2025 and to fully cooperate toward the implementation of ASEAN Vision 2045.
Furthermore, the head of the Myanmar Delegation stressed that the Myanmar government, based on its national priorities and on-the-ground realities, had engaged in implementing the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus. He informed the attendees that a free, fair, and inclusive multi-party general election that reflects the desire of the people would be held in the near future, with observers from ASEAN and the international community invited to ensure transparency and public trust.
On ASEAN external relations, the Myanmar delegate highlighted Myanmar’s current role as the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Russia relations, and elaborated on Myanmar’s active efforts to enhance collaboration between ASEAN and Russia.
In addition, Myanmar, as a member committed to regional integration and peace, welcomed Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN, and expressed its willingness to cooperate in building the ASEAN Community together.
In the ASEAN Foreign and Economic Ministers’ Joint Meeting, Head of the Myanmar Delegation emphasized that economic development is a crucial pillar for regional integration and resilience. He proposed enhanced coordination between the ASEAN Political-Security Community and the ASEAN Economic Community to support ASEAN’s long-term goals.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs receives Resident Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (22-10-2025, Nay Pyi Taw)

H.E. U Ko Ko Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs received Mr. Arnaud de Baecque, Resident Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Myanmar, at 13:30 hrs on 22 October 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters related to existing and further activities of ICRC in Myanmar.
Also present at the meeting were the senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

H.E. U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs received Ms Gwyn Lewis, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator a.i. (UNRC/HC a.i.), at 1000 hrs on 22 October 2025 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters related to the existing and further cooperation between the Government of Myanmar and the United Nations agencies.
Also present at the meeting were senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe received a farewell call by Dr. Rashid Abdulla M.A. Al-Kuwari, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Qatar, at 1500 hrs on 21 October 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the call, they cordially exchanged views on matters pertaining to promote bilateral relations and cooperation, accelerating ongoing negotiations of bilateral agreements and enhancing investment and cooperation in other sectors.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs holds bilateral calls on the sideline of the Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial Meeting 16 Oct 2025

H.E. U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, who is attending the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting in Kampala, Uganda, held bilateral meetings at the Speke Resort Convention Center.
On October 15, the Union Minister held separate meetings with H.E. Ms. Maria Manuela Lucas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique; H.E. Dr. Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran; H.E. Mr. Maxim RYZHENKOV, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus; H.E. Mr. Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, H.E. Md. Touhid Hossain, Foreign Advisor of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and H.E. Mrs. Monica Robelo Raffone, Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Republic of Itay.
On October 16, the Union Minister met with H.E. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda.
During the meetings, both sides cordially discussed strengthening existing diplomatic relations, holding bilateral political consultations, and enhancing multi-sectoral cooperation, including in trade and tourism. Furthermore, they exchanged views on enhancing engagement and coordination on regional and international issues.
Moreover, Myanmar side reaffirmed its commitment to the repatriation process of displaced persons from Rakhine State following the 2016-2017 incidents, during the meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Advisor.
Additionally, during the meetings with Uganda and Mozambique, both sides exchanged views on the prospects of establishing diplomatic relations and explored potential areas for cooperation.
Currently, Myanmar has established diplomatic relations with 126 countries, including 21 African nations, out of the 193 countries worldwide.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ko Ko Kyaw receives China MFA’s Special Envoy for Asian Affairs 15 Oct 2025

U Ko Ko Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, received Mr. Deng Xijun, Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw on 15 October 2025.
The discussion of the meeting focused on further enhancement of the existing Pauk-Phaw relation, building a community of shared future between the two countries and acceleration of mutually beneficial cooperation. In addition, they discussed continued cooperation for maintaining peace and stability along the Myanmar-China border, the latest developments on peace process and national reconciliation in Myanmar, the continued support of China on the efforts of Myanmar to achieve lasting peace and socio-economic development of its people, and to combat online gambling and other illegal activities in border areas. Both sides reaffirmed their mutual support in regional and multilateral context, and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe attends Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Uganda

At the official invitation of Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Chair of the Coordinating Bureau of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe participated in the Ministerial Meeting of NAM which is being held on 15-16 October 2025 in Kampala, Uganda.
Foreign Ministers, Deputy Foreign Ministers and representatives of the NAM Member States have been attending the Ministerial Meeting and delivering country statements at the Plenary Session being held at the Speke Resort Convention Centre.
The Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe delivered country statement at the Plenary Session of the Ministerial Meeting of NAM in the morning of 15 October 2025. In his statement, the Union Minister highlighted that the world today is confronting with multi-faceted challenges, resulting disproportionate impact on developing countries. He also mentioned that the competition among global powers could lead to potential challenges like trade war and World War III. To defend such worrying challenges and to safeguard peace, stability and development, the solidarity of NAM is important than ever. He stressed the importance of NAM to continue to protect common interests of developing countries. He also mentioned that as a founding member of the NAM, Myanmar has been strictly following the principles of NAM. In accordance with the theme, “Deepening cooperation for Shared Global Affluence”, he assured Myanmar’s reiteration on unwavering commitments, including the commitment to work hand-in-hand with other NAM Member Countries towards achieving peace, equality and development of the developing countries.
Moreover, the Minister apprised the Government’s efforts on ensuring free and fair general elections, cooperation with the neighbouring countries on combatting online scams and transnational crimes and ongoing developments in the country, including Rakhine State.
Before the Ministerial Meeting, a delegation led by U Kyaw Tin Shein, Myanmar Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, attended Senior Officials Meeting of NAM held on 13 and 14 October.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a forum which was founded in 1961 with the view to advancing interests of developing countries. Currently, NAM has 121 member States, 18 observer countries and 10 observer organizations. Myanmar is a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement.
