Permanent Secretary For Foreign Affairs receives Qatar Charge d’ Affairs (31-5-2023)
During the call, the Permanent Secretary shared information on matters pertaining to provisions of assistances by the Government of Myanmar and cooperation with international organizations including UN and ASEAN to deliver assistance to victims of Cyclone Mocha, progress of engaging with Bangladesh to implement the repatriation of displaced persons from Rakhine State and the government of Myanmar’s implementation of ASEAN five-point consensus as well as promotion of bilateral relations between Myanmar and Qatar.

U Ko Ko Hlaing, Union Minister for International Cooperation of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, met with the Russian State Duma delegation led by Mr. Sholban Kara-Ool, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, at 15:15 hrs. on 29 May 2023, at the Union Minister’s Office of the Ministry of International Cooperation in Nay Pyi Taw.

Two C-130 Royal Thai Airforce Aircraft carrying emergency aids and relief items including shelter tents and tarpaulin sheets, portable solar cell lamps, survival bags, impregnated mosquito nets, canned fish and instant noodles donated by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, the Royal Thai Government, Thai Red Cross Society, Thai –Myanmar Association for Friendship, Thai private sector and the People of Thailand for those affected by Cyclone Mocha in Myanmar, landed at the Yangon Airport this morning.
The emergency aids and relief items were handed over by H.E. Mr. Mongkol VISITSTUMP, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar to U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs. The handover ceremony was attended by U Aung Win Thein, Minister of Social Affairs of the Yangon Region Government, responsible officials from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Around 20 tons of humanitarian assistance donated by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand as well as various sectors from Thailand will be distributed to those affected by Cyclone Mocha, it is learnt.

Cyclone Mocha causes deaths and destruction across the nation
Due to the severely cyclonic storm Mocha in the Bay of Bengal which made a landfall in Rakhine State of Myanmar on 14 May 2023 with wind speeds of up to 130 mph (209 km/h), it caused tides, strong winds, heavy rains and flash floods.
The death and destruction in Myanmar caused by the severely cyclonic storm Mocha is being released in a timely manner. According to the investigation until 15 May evening, 12 houses, three religious buildings, one monastery, three schools, one airport building, eight lamp posts, one transformer, one departmental building, one wall were damaged and destroyed in 44 wards and villages of Nay Pyi Taw while 129 houses, one religious building, two monasteries, one school, two hospitals/clinics, four lamp posts, 30 departmental buildings and one football field in 24 wards and villages of Chin State, three houses, six telecom towers, two lamp posts, one transformer, 26 walls and three bridges in 23 wards and villages of Sagaing Region, 113houses, two telecom towers and one lamp post in 72 wards and villages of Bago Region, four houses, 14 lamp posts, 67 walls, 156 seasonal crop cultivation fields and one bridge in 34 wards and villages of Magway Region, four religious building in one village of Mandalay Region, one house, one monastery, one school and 14 lamp posts in four wards and villages of Mon State, 11,106 houses, 63 religious buildings, 36 monasteries, 118 schools, 22 hospital/clinic, one market, one airport building, one telecom tower, seven lamp posts, one transformer, 72 departmental buildings and 392 losses in 387 wards and villages of Rakhine State, 31 houses, one religious building, one monastery, seven schools, two telecom towers, 60 lamp posts, two transformers, six departmental buildings, two football fields and 34walls in 65 wards and villages of Yangon Region, two houses, one monastery and one school in one village of Shan State, 131 houses, one religious building, five monasteries, 32 schools, five hospital/clinic, nine lamp posts, three departmental buildings and four losses in 114 wards and villages of Ayeyawady Region. 20 people including security force members from Rakhine State and one from Ayeyawady Region have been reported dead.
Therefore, a total of 11,532 houses, 73 religious buildings, 47 monasteries, 163 schools, 29 hospitals and clinics, 11 telecom towers, 119 lamp posts, five transformers, one market, two airport buildings and 112 departmental buildings were destroyed in total and 21 people including security force members who are doing rescue work died.
In the cyclone-affected areas, the rescue teams in respective regions and states are undertaking rescue measures together with volunteer organizations, and officials concerned
went to the sites and provided necessary assistance.
Severe cyclonic storm Mocha moved north-northeastward after entering the inland area near Matupi of Chin State and then degraded to a cyclonic storm. It is now moving to the north-
northeastward near Katha of upper Sagaing Region, according to the cyclonic storm warning of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology at 7 a.m. 15 May 2023.
Notice on donation
The National Disaster Management Committee has released a Notice to the public for donation for relief and resettlement of the people in cyclone-affected areas. The Notice is as
follows:
- Local and foreign donors can donate cash and kind to the victims of the extremely severe cyclonic storm Mocha that hit Myanmar on 14-5-2023.
- People can donate Myanmar Kyats to OA-011834 of the National Disaster Management Fund and US dollars to 1DA-0300086 of the Natural Disaster
Management Fund while materials to the governments of respective regions and states.

Systematic Preparedness Measures in Various States, Regions Prior to Cyclone Mo Cha
Prior to the severely cyclonic storm Mocha in the Bay of Bengal approaching the coastal line of Myanmar, combined teams of the Myanmar Police Force, the General Administration Department, and Fire Services Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs accelerated their preparedness activities for relief, rescue and first-aid operations in various states and regions.
Preparedness activities such as rehearsal exercises were conducted at fire brigades in Kyauktaw, Kyaukpyu, Sittway, Taungup, Pauktaw, Buthidaung, Minpya, Manaung, Maungtaw, Myaypon, MraukU, Yanbye, Thandwe and An townships in Rakhine State; in Shwepyitha and Hlaing townships of the Yangon Region, and in Kangyidaunt, Kyaiklat, Pantanaw, Pathein, Maubin, Mawlamyine, Laputta, Wakema and Hinthada of the Ayeyawady Region. Likewise, preparedness activities were conducted in Haka township of Chin State, Launglon and Myeik townships of Taninthayi Region, Nyaunglebin, Toungoo and Bago townships in Bago Region, Mindon township in Magway Region, Kyaikmaraw, Paung, Bilin and Mudon townships in Mon State, Kyauktaw, Gwa, Sittway, Taungup, Ponnagyun, Pauktaw, Minbya, Manaung, Myebon, Rathedaung, Yanbye, Thandwe and An townships in Rakhine State, Mawlamyinekyun, Myanaung, Yekyi, and Labutta townships in Ayeyawady Region. People were informed and notified of well-preparedness measures against any possible incoming storm.
