(UN RC/HC a.i.) at 0945 hrs on 28 February 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, they discussed the matters on existing cooperation between the Government of Myanmar and the United Nations agencies.
Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar receives Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Federation (21-2-2024)
U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar received Mr. Andrey Rudenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation at 09:45 hrs. on 21 February 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, they discussed matters pertaining to the further strengthening of existing friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Myanmar and Russia especially in economic and tourism sectors, provision of more scholarships for Myanmar students and enhancement of collaboration both in regional and multilateral arenas. They also highlighted the importance of government-to-government relations as well as people-to-people contacts between the two countries. Deputy Prime Minister also briefed on the government’s endeavours to restore peace and stability in the country.

The Myanmar-Russia Political Consultations co-chaired by U Lwin Oo, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar and Mr. Andrey Rudenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation was held on the afternoon of 20 February 2024, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, the two sides cordially exchanged views on the closer collaboration between the two foreign ministries, the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation including in the spheres of defence and security, judicial and legal, transport, trade, industry and investment, banking, mass-media, education, science and technology, health, culture, tourism and people-to-people linkages, the broadening of cooperation in the regional and multilateral fora as well as the recent developments in Myanmar. This Consultations is held under the Plan of Consultations (2022-2024) which was signed between the two Foreign Ministries in 2022. The Consultations was attended by the senior officials from the respective Ministries. After the Consultations, the Deputy Foreign Minister hosted a dinner in honour of the Russian delegation at the Hilton Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw.

H.E. U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar received H.E. Mr. Mongkol Visitstump, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at 13:00 p.m. on 25 January 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, both sides closely discussed matters related to peace and stability in the border region including enhancement of bilateral relationship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand.

Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs receives the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar (25 January 2024)
U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received Mr. Chen Hai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, on 25 January 2024 at 1000 hrs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, they cordially discussed the matters pertaining to the further consolidation of the existing Pauk-Phaw relations and expansion of cooperation between Myanmar and China, continued implementation of Myanmar-China bilateral projects, maintenance of peace and stability along the border areas between Myanmar and China as well as closer collaboration under the regional and multilateral frameworks.

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe attends 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Uganda (21 -1-2024)
At the official invitation of the Republic of Uganda, the host of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe participated in the 19th Summit of the NAM which was held on 19-20 January 2024 in Kampala, Uganda.
The Opening Ceremony of the 19th Summit of the NAM was held at the Rwenzori Convention Centre on 19 January 2024 and Welcome Remarks was delivered by Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of Delegation of Azerbaijan and current Chair of the NAM.
Then, Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda was elected by acclamation by all NAM Member Countries as the Chair of the 19th Summit of the NAM and Azerbaijan handed over the Chairmanship of NAM to Uganda.
The Vice President of Cuba and the Current Chair of the G-77 and China, the President of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly and the Chair of the African Union Commission also delivered their Remarks respectively.
The Heads of Delegation of more than (80) countries attended the 19th Summit of the NAM which was held on 19-20 January 2024 and delivered their country statements.
In the afternoon of 20 January 2024, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe delivered a statement at the Plenary Session of the 19th Summit of the NAM. In his statement, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs expressed his sincere thanks to the Government and the people of Uganda for hosting this important Summit and he congratulated Azerbaijan for the successful Chairmanship for the past four years. The Deputy Prime Minister added that the theme of this Summit “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence” is timely and most relevant to current global situations. He mentioned Myanmar’s conviction that cooperation, engagement and solidarity among the NAM members can overcome challenges and complexities that we are facing today. Having witnessed that our world is facing unprecedented challenges, he stressed the need for NAM to be more united to practically address the global issues of concern, conflicts and competition between great powers. The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted that as a founding member of NAM, Myanmar wishes NAM to remain as the most relevant platform for developing Countries for addressing numerous global issues and challenges. In his statement, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs also apprised the Meeting of the Myanmar Government’s efforts to ensure peace, development and democracy in the country and the latest developments of Myanmar.
In the evening of 19 January 2024, the President and the First Lady of Uganda hosted a State Dinner in honor of Heads of Delegation of NAM Member Countries.
The Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China is being held in Kampala from 21 January 2024 and Myanmar delegation led by U Myint Lwin, Myanmar Ambassador to Egypt is attending the said Summit.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a forum which was founded in 1961 with the view to advancing interests of developing countries. At the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the South Sudan was admitted as the newest member of the NAM. Therefore, 121 countries are now members to the NAM. Myanmar is a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Deputy Foreign Minister receives Brazilian Ambassador to Myanmar (18-1-2024)
U Lwin Oo, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar received Mr. Gustavo Rocha de Menezes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, at 1400 hrs on 18 January 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister congratulated the Brazilian Ambassador on his recent appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and they cordially exchanged views on matters relating to the enhancement of Myanmar-Brazil bilateral relations and potential areas of communication for mutual benefit, including the technical cooperation for the production of snake anti-venom in Myanmar, as well as the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of aviation, agriculture, trade, health, sports and technology and the holding of political consultations between Myanmar and Brazil as well as closer collaboration in the international arenas.
