U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs receives H.E. Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador-designate of India to Myanmar (30-4-2024)

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received H.E. Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of India to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at 1400 hrs on 30 April 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw.
 
During the call, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs extended congratulations to the Ambassador-designate for the latter’s appointment as Ambassador of India to Myanmar. They cordially exchanged views on matters pertaining to the further consolidation of the existing friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas including bilateral trade, investment and connectivity as well as closer collaboration for maintenance of peace and stability along the border between Myanmar and India. The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister also appraised the latest developments of Myanmar.

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs receives Ambassador of Cambodia to Myanmar (24-4-2024)

The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Than Swe received H.E. Mr. CHUM Angvichet, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar who is leaving Myanmar after completion of his tour of duty in Myanmar at 1500 hrs on 24 April 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
 
​During the farewell call, they reviewed the development of the existing traditional friendly relations and candidly discussed matters on wide range of issues pertaining to the potential for further strengthening the mutually beneficial cooperation especially in the areas of trade and investment, culture, tourism and people-to-people contacts between the two countries as well as closer collaboration in both regional and multilateral arenas.

H.E. U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar received the delegation headed by H.E. Mr. Sergey Glazyev, Member of the Board – Minister in Charge for Integration and Macroeconomics, Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw at 11:00 hrs on 8 April 2024.

During the meeting, they discussed the matter on enhancement of cooperation between Myanmar and Eurasian Economic Union (EEU/EAEU) member countries in the sectors of trade, investment, business to business, people to people contact and so on.

Also present at the meeting were senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the members of the delegation headed by H.E. Mr. Sergey Glazyev.

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs receives UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security Mr. Gilles Michaud(4-4- 2024)

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs received Mr. Gilles Michaud, UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security, at 11:30 hrs on 4 April 2024, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.​During the meeting, Mr. Gilles Michaud discussed the security of the UN personnel and the travel access for operating respective functions of UN Agencies in Myanmar. The Deputy Prime Minister and the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs responded that Myanmar highly prioritizes the safety and security of the UN personnel and facilitates at its best for the travel access for the UN agencies. Moreover, they exchanged views on matters related to transnational crimes.​Also present at the meeting were senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Marcoluigi Corsi, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator a.i. and Mr. Marco Smoliner, Security Advisor of UNDSS in Myanmar.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs receives Ambassador of India to Myanmar (29-3-2024)

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received H.E. Mr. Vinay Kumar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, who has completed his tour of duty in Myanmar, at 1130 hrs on 29 March 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the call, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister commended the Ambassador’s contributions towards further strengthening the bilateral ties during his tour of duty. They cordially exchanged views on matters pertaining to the promotion of the traditional bonds of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation including the progress of the on-going development projects between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs receives Ambassador of China to Myanmar (28-3-2024)

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received Mr. Chen Hai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, at 1030 hrs on 28 March 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw. During the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on pertaining to the further enhancement of the existing “Pauk-Phaw” relations, the management of Border Crossings, the maintenance of peace and stability along the border between Myanmar and China, Myanmar-China Bilateral Relations, accelerating the mutually beneficial cooperation and closer collaboration in both regional and international arena.

Commemorative ceremony held to mark the 8th Anniversary of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) (28-3-2024)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the commemorative ceremony of the 8th Anniversary of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) at KMA Nay Pyi Taw Hotel today’s evening.
General Mya Tun Oo, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications, U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, Union Ministers from MLC Special Fund Projects Implementation Ministries, the Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, the Ambassadors and representatives from the Embassies of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Member Countries, Deputy Ministers and senior officials attended the commemorative event.
At the ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe delivered a commemorative speech. In doing so, he cherished how the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation was launched and expressed his profound gratitude to all the Member Countries, in particular to the People’s Republic of China. He also expressed his appreciation to the relevant Ministries of Myanmar which have contributed to the successful outcomes of MLC Cooperation.
On top of that, the Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted that Mekong River is a transboundary river that provides benefits to six MLC Countries equally and harmoniously as a major source of food and income for the people residing along the Mekong River. He added that while sharing the benefits, MLC counties are also responsible to protect and promote the future of Mekong River. He underscored that, nowadays, MLC can be considered as the most successful one among many cooperation mechanisms in the Mekong region. The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that MLC was born on 23 March 2016 and he praised the wisdom of the MLC Leaders’ decision to establish MLC aiming the peace and prosperity of the people from the Mekong Region. He expressed his thanks to China for setting up and contribution of USD 300 million to MLC Special Fund.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the significant contribution of Myanmar during MLC Co-Chairmanship, together with China, from August 2020 to December 2023 which includes jointly holding of three Ministerial Meetings and the successful adoption of three important documents i.e. “Nay Pyi Taw Declaration”, “Five-Year Plan of Action on MLC (2023 to 2027)” and “Joint Initiatives on MLC Innovation Corridor Development” at the 4th MLC Leaders’ Meeting. He also emphasized the importance of MLC Special Fund provided by China which resulted in the socio-economic development of Myanmar by supporting USD 31.6 million from the year 2017 to 2023 for the implementation of 106 Special Fund Projects.
The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Myanmar’s strong commitment to work closely with all MLC Members to further strengthen the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation mechanism in the coming years. In addition, he congratulated Ambassador Mr. Chen Hai of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar for contributing an article on MLC which was published recently in Myanmar Daily Newspapers.
Mr. Chen Hai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar also delivered a speech. In his speech, he highlighted that LMC was first proposed at the ASEAN-China Summit in Nay Pyi Taw ten years ago, and it was officially launched in March 2016. The Ambassador added that over the past eight years, the LMC Countries have made improvements in railways, roads, airports, ports, pipelines and power grids of the region. He further pointed out that the closer connectivity has speeded up regional economic, trade and people-to-people exchanges. The Ambassador emphasized that LMC Special Fund has supported over 700 livelihood projects in the LMC region. He stressed that during last year, the economy of China has contributed one-third of global growth at a rate of 5.2 percent. He also underscored that China’s modernization will bring new opportunities for Myanmar and other Mekong Countries and it will also add greater impetus to the cooperation.
Following this, the commemorative group photo was taken. During the dinner, the cultural troupe from the Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Religious Affair and Culture entertained the attendee with the cultural performances. The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and Mr. Chen Hai, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar together with Ambassadors and representatives from MLC Embassies presented gifts to the cultural troupe.
Mekong-Lancang Cooperation was established for the peace, prosperity and sustainable development of peoples from the Mekong-Lancang sub-region which includes Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam. While tangible developments can be seen during the past eight years, Myanmar has also been reaping fruitful benefits from Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs received Mr. Carl Johan Orrenius Skau, Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of World Food Programme (WFP) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw at 13:00 hrs on 12 March 2024. During the meeting, they discussed the matters related to the current cooperation between the Government of Myanmar and WFP as well as possible areas for further cooperation. Also present at the meeting were the delegation led by Mr. Carl Johan Orrenius Skau, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs receives Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar (4-3-2024)

Monwar Hossain, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, at 1130 hrs on 4 March 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.​During the call, they cordially exchanged views on further consolidation of bilateral relations between the two countries, expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas including bilateral trade, investment and connectivity, successful implementation of repatriation of verified displaced persons from Rakhine State as well as regional and international matters of common interest.
