U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received H.E. Mrs. Ponnamperuma Arachchige Prabashini Ponnamperuma, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, at 1030 hrs on 27 September 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the call, they cordially exchanged views on the promotion of friendly bilateral ties and enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in economic, consular, information technology, agricultural and religious sectors.

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received H.E. Mr. Harishchandra Ghimire, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, at 1030 hrs on 10 September 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the call, they cordially exchanged views on the promotion of friendly bilateral ties and expansion of cooperation in areas of mutual interest including trade and investment, culture, tourism and information technology between Myanmar and Nepal.

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received H.E. Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, at 1230 hrs on 6 September 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the call, they cordially exchanged views on matters pertaining to the strengthening of the traditional friendly ties between the two countries, furtherance of bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest including the ongoing connectivity projects and regional and international matters of common interest.

U Lwin Oo, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E. Mr. Iskander Azizov at 1100 hrs on 28 August 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on matters pertaining to the further enhancement of the friendly bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries as well as closer collaboration in regional and multilateral contexts.

U Lwin Oo, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs received the delegation led by Ms. Edem Wosornu, Chair of Emergency Directors Group – EDG and Director for Operations and Advocacy Division at UNOCHA in New York at 11:00 hrs on 27 August 2024, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on the current and further cooperation between Myanmar and the United Nations and facilitation for provision of humanitarian assistance to the needy population.

 

Also present at the meeting were Permanent Secretary and the senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Executive Secretary of the Steering Committee for Humanitarian Response (SCHR) and WHO Director of Health Emergency Interventions who are Emergency Directors based in Geneva and Resident Coordinator/ Humanitarian Coordinator ad interim, Head of UNOCHA (Myanmar) and Head of Coordination Unit (UNOCHA, Myanmar) based in Yangon.

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received H.E. Ms. Ma Jia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, at 0900 hrs on 27 August 2024 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the meeting, they cordially discussed the matters pertaining to the further consolidation of the existing Pauk-Phaw relations and implementation of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, China’s consistent support towards peace and sustainable social-economy development for Myanmar. Both sides also exchanged views on closer collaboration in regional and international arena, especially ASEAN and the United Nations.

Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe arrived back from Chiang Mai, Thailand in the evening of 18 August 2024 after attending the 9th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

 

During his stay in Chiang Mai, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs had a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, on 15 August 2024.

 

At the Meeting, both sides cordially exchanged views on further enhancing the existing traditional bonds of friendship and bilateral relations. Furthermore, they engaged in candid discussions on the strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in the areas of labour cooperation and employment of Myanmar migrant workers in Lao. They also explored opportunities to bolster trade and investment as well as closer collaboration in regional and multilateral arenas, including ASEAN.

 

Moreover, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs participated in the “China—Lao PDR—Myanmar—Thailand Informal Discussion,” which was held, on the sidelines of the 9th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

 

Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Wang Yi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi also attended the said discussion.

 

During the Discussion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs appraised them of the recent developments in Myanmar. Four nations cordially exchanged views and committed to closer collaboration for the maintenance of security, prevalence of peace and stability along the border areas and combatting illegal activities related to cross-border illicit trade, drug trafficking, arms smuggling, human trafficking, online scams and transnational crimes. Moreover, they also discussed the possibilities of implementing the ASEAN five-point consensus in line with the five-point roadmap of Myanmar and facilitating constructive cooperation with Myanmar as a neighbouring country.
