U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs received Mr. Arnaud de Baecque, Resident Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), at 1600 hrs on 4 February 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
 
During the meeting, they exchanged views on the existing and ongoing activities of ICRC in Myanmar.
 
Also present at the meeting were senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Myanmar Delegation led by U Lwin Oo, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, attended the 4th Political Consultations meeting between Myanmar and Brazil at the Deputy Foreign Minister- level held on 28 January 2025 at Ruy Barbosa Room, Palacio Itamaraty of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
 
At the meeting, they exchanged views on Myanmar’s preparation for general election, peace process, and repatriation process for displaced persons, trade and investment, development for international cooperation, combatting transnational crimes and consular affairs. Under the context of regional and multilateral affairs, they discussed Myanmar’s implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point consensus, Brazil’s preparation for hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) to be held in Belem in 2025, and BRICS. Subsequently, they frankly exchanged views on other matters of common interest of both countries.
 
After the meeting, the Myanmar delegation and the Brazil delegation took the commemorative group photo together. Then, they exchanged gifts. Afterwards, the Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs attended the lunch hosted by Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil H.E. Mrs. Maria Laura da Rocha.
 
Later that afternoon, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs visited the Myanmar Embassy in Brazil. Following a tour of the embassy, he met with the embassy staff and gave necessary guidance to them.
 
In the evening of 30 January 2025, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs met separately with H.E. Mr. Paco Britto, Secretary of the International Relations of Federal District Government and Ambassador Maria Luiza Ribeiro Lopes da Silva, Acting Director of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC). During the meetings, they discussed the issues related to the reciprocal exchange of diplomatic land plot for the Embassy premises between Myanmar and Brazil, the potential for greater cooperation between the Myanmar Government and the Brazilian Federal Government, improving the quality of snake anti-venom in Myanmar according to the technical agreement under the South-South Cooperation for developing countries, and other potential areas of cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe paid official visit to Brunei Darussalam (23 -1- 2025, Bandar Seri Begawan)

At the invitation of H.E. Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam, the Myanmar delegation led by U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar paid an official visit to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam from 22 to 23 January 2025.
 
During the visit, in the morning of 22 January 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister attended the briefing event of the construction of new Myanmar Embassy building located in diplomatic compound in Bandar Seri Begawan. He received updates on the progress of the construction and gave necessary guidance after the briefing. He also attended the cornerstone laying ceremony of Myanmar Embassy building and laid the foundation. Afterwards, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister visited other two land plots out of three obtained under the agreement for reciprocal exchange of land for the construction of diplomatic premises between Myanmar and Brunei Darussalam, and observed the possibility of building residences for Myanmar Embassy staff. Then, he inspected the functioning of Myanmar Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan, met with the Embassy staff and gave guidance.
 
In the evening of 22 January 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam hosted an official dinner in honor of Myanmar delegation at the Rumbia Restaurant in Bandar Seri Begawan.
 
In the morning of 23 January 2025, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs II at Assarraa VIP Guest House villa (2) and had an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam in the afternoon at the Istana Nurul Iman Palace. During the meetings, they cordially exchanged views and discussed on matters pertaining to promotion of cross-sector cooperation, especially on trade, defence, health, education and people-to-people exchanges and collaborating more closely in regional organization ASEAN and international arenas. Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs updated the Myanmar Government’s efforts to ensure peace, development, democracy in the country and the latest developments of Myanmar.

During the meeting, they discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations, focusing on enhancing economic partnerships and exploring new areas of cooperation in trade, investment, and tourism.

ASEAN Foreign Ministers from ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Secretary-General attended the said event.
 
At the Meeting, the ASEAN Chair briefed the priority of deliverables in 2025, ASEAN Foreign Ministers discussed the cooperation among ASEAN and its external partners and exchanged views on regional and international issues, and discussed the progress on the implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus. The Head of Delegation briefed the meeting on the developments in Myanmar, including Myanmar’s cooperation in the implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus and the Government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability and preparation for free and fair elections in Myanmar.
 
Director-General of the ASEAN Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar participated in the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting held on 18 January 2025. ASEAN Senior Officials from ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General from ASEAN Political-Security Community attended the said Meeting.
 
The Senior Officials’ Meeting discussed the ASEAN Chair’s priority deliverables in 2025, development of the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, application to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and cooperation among ASEAN and promotion of relations with ASEAN’s external partners. As the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations coordinator, Myanmar delegation emphasized its efforts for advancing mutually beneficial relations between ASEAN and Russia.

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs received Mr. Sanjay Mathur, Regional Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Asia Region in Bangkok at 1030 hrs on 16 January 2025 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
 
During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters related to UNOPS’s ongoing activities in Myanmar and discussed enhancing cooperation between Myanmar and UNOPS.
 
Also present at the meeting were Ms. Sara Austin Netzer, Country Director and Representative of UNOPS in Myanmar and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Workshop on “Optimizing Myanmar’s role in ASEAN” continues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (10-1-2025)

The two-day workshop on “Optimizing Myanmar’s role in ASEAN” continued at the Lawkanat Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 10th January 2025.
 
On the second day, based on the presentations and outcomes of discussion on the ASEAN Political and Security Community on the first day, the participants from the respective ministries of the three ASEAN Community Pillars reviewed progress under the ASEAN Economic Community and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, prioritized key sectors, explored strategies to address challenges, and outlined approaches to strengthen collaboration in ASEAN mechanisms. The two-day workshop has fostered a stronger network among ministries under the three ASEAN Community Pillars. Based on the outcomes of the workshop, a national level ASEAN work plan will be formulated through close coordination among all ministries. Furthermore, Myanmar has actively engaged in the strategic action plan of various ASEAN pillars to support the implementation of the ASEAN-Community Vision 2045, while openly exchanging views on aligning national priorities with regional interests.
 
H.E. U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs concluded the workshop encouraging all the participants from the relevant ministries to coordinate and collaborate efforts together in advancing a comprehensive strategic national agenda under the three pillars of ASEAN, and to strive to reach the same goal with unity and strength.

Also in attendance were Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and senior officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, Belarusian Ambassador to Myanmar, Deputy Ministers of the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, First Vice-Rector of Belarusian State University and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
 
At the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on matters related to the closer collaboration between the two Foreign Ministries, the milestones and achievements in bilateral cooperation to mark the 25th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2024, the enhancement of mutually beneficial cooperation and people-to-people exchange between the two countries, including in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture and livestock, education, and defence, and holding Myanmar-Belarus Business Meeting as well as the broadening of closer cooperation in regional and multilateral contexts.
 
In the afternoon, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs hosted a working lunch in honour of the Belarusian Foreign Minister and delegation at the Horizon Lake View Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw.
