ASEAN-Myanmar SOM Leader, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar attended the 27th ASEAN-India Senior Officials’ Meeting (27th AISOM) (12-3-2025,Manila)

ASEAN-Myanmar SOM Leader, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar attended the 27th ASEAN-India Senior Officials’ Meeting held on 12 March 2025 in Manila. The 27th AISOM was co-chaired by H.E. MA Theresa P. Lazaro, ASEAN-Philippines SOM Leader and H.E. Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India and India’s SOM Leader for ASEAN. At the meeting, Senior Officials and delegates from the ASEAN Member States, and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Political and Security Community and the relevant officials were also in attendance and representative of Timor-Leste attended as an observer.
The Meeting exchanged views on the developments in ASEAN and India, regional and international issues and reviewed the progress of the implementation of the Plan of Action (POA) to implement the ASEAN- India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (2021-2025) and its successor POA, and mapped out plans of the ASEAN and India for the year 2025 and towards the future.
It is reported that Myanmar Delegation attended the welcome dinner hosted by the Philippines SOM Leader, which was held on 11 March 2025.

U Lwin Oo, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs received Mr. Alexander James Matheou, Regional Director of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for Asia Pacific, at 1630 hrs on 11 March 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters relating to IFRC’s support for strengthening the activities of Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) and ways to promote the provision of humanitarian assistance to Myanmar.
Also present at the meeting were senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Myo Nyunt, Chairman of MRCS, Ms. Nadia Khoury, IFRC Head of Delegation in Myanmar, and officials from IFRC and MRCS.

U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, received Mr. Deng Xijun, the Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, on 10 March 2025 at 1000 hrs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in discussions aimed at further strengthening the existing Pauk Phaw relations between Myanmar and China. They emphasized the importance of accelerating mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors including the maintenance of peace and stability along the Myanmar-China border, the latest developments on peace and national reconciliation process of Myanmar, the continued support of the Chinese Government for the sustainable Peace and socio-economic development of the people of Myanmar. The two sides exchanged view on enhancing collaboration between the relevant agencies of the two countries in addressing the growing challenges of online gambling and telecommunication fraud networks in the border areas, reaffirmed their mutual support in regional and multilateral forums, and underscored the importance of cooperation on matters of shared interest.

At the invitation of U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand paid a working visit to Myanmar from 21 to 22 February 2025.
During the visit, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand paid a courtesy call on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of State Administration Council and Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in the morning of 22 February 2025, and he also held Myanmar-Thai bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe at the Jasmine Nay Pyi Taw Hotel in the afternoon.
During the bilateral meeting, both sides cordially exchanged views on further consolidation of existing bilateral relations and continue enhancement of multi-dimensional cooperation between the two countries, particularly in addressing illegal activities along the borders, such as cross-border illegal trade, drug trafficking, arms smuggling, online fraud, human trafficking, transnational crimes as well as collaborating more closely in regional and international arena. Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs updated the latest developments in Myanmar including government’s peace efforts and preparations for the upcoming general elections.
Thai Delegation headed by Foreign Minister H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa left Nay Pyi Taw for Bangkok, Thailand in the evening of 22 February 2025. During his stay in Nay Pyi Taw, Thai Foreign Minister paid homage to the Maravijaya Buddha Image located at the Buddha Park in Nay Pyi Taw in the evening of 21 February 2025 and attended the working dinner hosted by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs at Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
A Workshop on “Promoting the Role and Coordination of Ministries for the Successful ACMECS Chairmanship” held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (20-2-2025, Nay Pyi Taw)

A workshop on “Promoting the Role and Coordination of Ministries for the Successful Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Chairmanship” took place at the Lawkanat Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 20 February 2025.
In his opening remarks at the opening session of the workshop, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe highlighted that, Myanmar has been actively participating in international and regional cooperation mechanisms. He also recalled that Myanmar hosted the First ACMECS Summit in Bagan in 2003 and the Sixth Summit in Nay Pyi Taw in 2015. He also informed that Myanmar assumed ACMECS Chairmanship from Lao PDR during the 10th ACMECS Summit held in Kunming, China on 7 November 2024 and is set to convene the upcoming 11th ACMECS Summit as Chair. “Strengthening Socio-Economic Development towards Smart and Sustainable ACMECS” has been selected as the Theme of the 11th ACMECS Summit. The workshop is held with the aim to successfully assume Chairmanship during its term. Moreover, the implementation needs to be emphasized with the focus of areas such as agro-based industrial development with the aim to support regional socio-economic development, increase production of quality consumer goods from forestry resources and environmental protection. He further emphasized that the workshop will provide a good opportunity for participants to exchange views, share experiences, discuss challenges, and outline future plans and activities.
In the Plenary Session, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Lwin Oo gave an overview of planned meetings and activities to be carried out during Myanmar’s ACMECS Chairmanship and purposes and expected outcomes of the workshop. During the workshop, senior officials and representatives from respective ministries shared their views on matters related to activities and progress under ACMECS cooperation; viable projects and programmes to be implemented during Myanmar’s ACMECS Chairmanship; and effective cooperation and coordination during Myanmar’s Chairmanship; developing action plans in order to realize the ACMCES projects and programmes; and enhancing the role and coordination of respective ministries for the successful Myanmar’s ACMECS Chairmanship.
In the Closing Session, Deputy Minister U Lwin Oo concluded the workshop by encouraging the respective ministries to continue implementing prioritized projects and work plans under the Three Pillars of ACMECS cooperation in alignment with internal processes and to translate the workshop’s outcomes into actionable plans that will deliver long-term benefits for the nation and the region as a whole.
The workshop was attended by approximately 60 senior government officials and representatives from the respective ministries involved in ACMECS cooperation.
