U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar received Mr. Mongkol VISITSTUMP, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar at 1800 hours on 31 March 2025 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
 
During the meeting, Thai Ambassador extended his deepest condolences to affected families and communities by the devastating earthquake on 28 March 2025, mentioned that Thai government has sent rescue team and will continue to support Myanmar Government’s effort for the disaster relief and resettlement program.
 
Afterwards, Thai Ambassador handed over necessary food items donated by Thai Embassy and Thai Business Association of Myanmar for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs virtually attended the Special Emergency Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers in the aftermath of the Earthquake in Myanmar (30-3-2025)

The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. U Than Swe attended the Special Emergency Meeting of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers in the aftermath of the Earthquake in Myanmar held via video conference on 30th March 2025 at 0830 hrs. The Meeting was convened to coordinate the humanitarian assistance, and relief and recovery operations in the affected areas in Myanmar and Thailand in the aftermath of devastating earthquake.
 
At the Meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister expressed appreciation to those who have provided the support to the earthquake relief and rehabilitation efforts. He continued to brief the Meeting that on the State Administration Council’s efforts for earthquake relief and rehabilitation of affected victims as soon as after the State of Emergency declared on 28 March 2025 to ease the impact of earthquake. At present, the Government has been providing the humanitarian aids, including food and non-food items, water and temporary shelters to the affected areas and prioritized the restoration of the transportation system and electricity.
 
The Deputy Prime Minister and the Union Minister stated that urgent supports are needed in areas of search and rescue, temporary shelters and emergency health services following the major earthquake and related tremors occurred more than 17 times. Further assistance may be needed to make security assessment of the standing buildings and reconstruction of the building and infrastructure.
 
He also expressed readiness to facilitate the transportation of the relief items to the affected people, and called for further assistance.
 
The ASEAN Member States expressed condolences to the victims of earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand, highlighted the importance to strengthen ASEAN solidarity in times of emergency, and expressed readiness to coordinate humanitarian assistance, support and facilitate the relief and recovery operations.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and India. They explored opportunities to enhance collaboration across various sectors of mutual interest and emphasized the importance of utilizing existing mechanisms to advance the shared interests of both countries.

During the meeting, they cordially exchanged views on matters relating to the recent outcome of the 4th Political Consultation Meeting held on 28 January 2025, cooperation with Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), including the improvement of the quality of snake anti-venom in Myanmar under the technical agreement within the South-South Cooperation for developing countries, combatting transnational crimes and consular matters. Moreover, they also discussed on the matters related to BRICS, Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty and closer collaboration in the regional and international arenas.
