Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe received Ambassador of Algeria to Myanmar, with residence in Hanoi, Mr. Azeddine BECHKA, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 17 December 2025 at 1200 hrs.
During the call, the Union Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Myanmar. They cordially exchanged views on matters pertaining to enhance cooperation between the two foreign ministries for strengthening of bilateral relations, cooperation on energy, agriculture, trade, investment and other potential areas. They also discussed cooperation at the bilateral and international levels.

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe received Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Myanmar Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 16 December 2025 at 1330 hrs.
During the courtesy call, the Union Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to Myanmar. They discussed matters relating to further strengthening cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries, enhancing relations between Myanmar and Brunei, and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors, particularly, agriculture, trade, investment and labour.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Hau Khan Sum received Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 16 December 2025 at 1145 hrs.
During the meeting, they cordially discussed matters pertaining to the further strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation, including consular and boundary-related matters.
Conveining of the Coordination Meeting on the proposed ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit and Related Activities to mark the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN-Russia Relations (16-12-2025,Nay Pyi Taw)

As the year 2026 marks the 35th Anniversary of ASEAN–Russia relations, a coordination meeting among the (3) Pillars of the ASEAN Community was convened on 16 December 2025 at the Saturingabala Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw to discuss successful convening of the proposed ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit and related activities. The meeting was chaired by U Hau Khan Sum, SOM Leader of ASEAN Political-Security Community of Myanmar and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and attended by Senior Officials from relevant Ministries.
At the coordination meeting, the Permanent Secretary delivered opening remarks. While emphasizing Myanmar’s responsibilities as the country coordinator of the ASEAN–Russia Dialogue Relations from 2024 to 2027, he encouraged the senior representatives from the relevant ministries to provide suggestions and comments to ensure successful convening of the Commemorative Summit and related activities proposed by the Russian side.
Then, the Director-General of the ASEAN Affairs Department, explained the feasibility of implementing the programs provided by the ministries, as well as Myanmar’s efforts in coordinating between ASEAN and the Russian Federation, which was followed by further suggestions and discussions from senior representatives of the relevant ministries in attendance.

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe received a farewell call by Mr. Saud bin Abdullah Al Subaie, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 11 December 2025, at 1530 hrs.
During the farewell call, they reviewed the existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Saudi Arabia, discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two foreign ministries, possible areas and opportunities for economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Working Committee Meeting on Narrowing the Development Gap held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (11-12-2025, Nay Pyi Taw)

A Working Committee Meeting on Narrowing the Development Gap, aimed at narrowing the development gap among ASEAN Member States and enhancing capacity to accelerate participation in regional integration, was conducted on 11 December 2025 at the Saturingabala Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in his capacity as Chairman of the Working Committee.
At the Meeting, U Hau Khan Sum, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered opening remarks, encouraging respective Ministries responsible for various strategic areas under the Initiative for ASEAN Integration(IAI) Workplan to collectively discuss and explore ways to secure more projects that align with national interests of Myanmar and to ensure effective implementation of the those projects, thereby enabling Myanmar to gain equal opportunities within the ASEAN Community. Then, the Director General of the ASEAN Affairs Department as a Secretary of Working Committee, discussed the organizational structure of the Working Committee on Narrowing the Development Gap, the background information of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plans, the implementation of the projects under each Work Plan, and the strategic areas and challenges to be included in the IAI Work Plan V. Representatives from the Ministries attending the Meeting also discussed the projects that are being implemented under the respective strategic areas.
Foreign Ministers of Myanmar and Thailand meet and discuss key issues of mutual interests (7-12-2025, Nay Pyi Taw)

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, H.E. U Than Swe, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, who paid a one-day visit to Nay Pyi Taw on 7 December 2025. Union Minister also hosted a Working Lunch to the Foreign Minister of Thailand and his delegation at Jasmine Nay Pyi Taw Hotel.
The two Foreign Ministers reaffirmed that Myanmar and Thailand are the neighbours, bound by shared cultural traditions, societal linkages, and strong economic interdependence. They noted that these natural linkages create a solid and strong foundation for enhancing partnership between the two countries.
Both Ministers underscored the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and economic prosperity along the common border, noting that this is essential for the prosperity and well-being of communities on both sides.
The Union Minister appraised the Thai Foreign Minister of the determined efforts of Myanmar on eradicating online scamming in the area bordering Thailand and highlighted the importance of effective cooperation between Myanmar and its neighbours.
In discussing the negative consequences and instability caused by illegal border trade via illegal gates, both sides exchanged views on importance of promoting legal and regulated trade channels for the benefits of both countries.
The Foreign Ministers further discussed ways to strengthen closer cooperation to address common issues and promote mutual interests of Myanmar and Thailand. The Union Minister reaffirmed that, for the prosperity of both sides, the door is always open to Thailand for enhanced cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries.
In the afternoon, the Foreign Minister and his delegation visited the prefabricated school at Basic Education Branch High School (Thapyay Kone) in Pobba Thiri Township, constructed by AHA Centre, with the financial support of Thailand.
The delegation then paid homage to the Maravijaya Buddha Image in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters pertaining to the further advancement of bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of common interest.

U Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs received Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to Myanmar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw at 10:00 hrs on 1 December 2025.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters pertaining to the UNFPA’s work plans and its activities in Myanmar.
Also present at the meeting were respective officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
